From one electrode to ten

We started with a single sensor in an earpad. Here is how the hardware grew.

The first version was almost too simple. One dry electrode, tucked into an earpad. No gel, no cap, no straps. Just a single channel of EEG from around the ear.

It worked better than we expected. We benchmarked it against a consumer NeuroSky headset and got a real signal. Good enough to see alpha rise when we closed our eyes. Good enough to compute a focus score that moved with our state.

But one channel has limits. Around the ear is a noisy spot. Jaw muscles, neck, and movement all leak into the signal. With one electrode you cannot always tell brain from muscle. So we kept building.

We designed our own signal board to capture and clean the EEG. Then we grew the sensor. The current ear pad holds ten conductive-fiber electrodes inside the cushion. More channels means we can separate signals better, cover more of the ear, and get a steadier read.

The ear pad is model-specific. It swaps in like a normal replacement cushion and connects to the board. You keep the headphones you already own.

We are still early. But the path from one electrode to ten taught us the same lesson every time. Real signal first. Everything else comes after.
